Much Ado About Nothing

For some reasonTo Kill a Mockingbird I can't seem to update this blog more than quarterly. I guess my life is just so ordinary that it takes four months or so before I have enough semi-interesting things to post about. I'm pushing it with mediocre info this entry just because I'm sick of seeing the blog about my trip to NY on the homepage. For fascinating day-to-day updates, you can catch me on Facebook and Twitter.

I think it's been just over a year since I started reading through Newsweek's list of the top 100 books. I really thought I would be done by now but I'm currently only on #36. In my defense, a few of the books listed are really multiples (I think the only multiple I've gotten to is The Iliad and The Odyssey so that comes to a grand total of #37 :p) and I also read a number of novels throughout the year which are not on the list. To view my progress, click on the Books link in the top left corner of this page. I rate all of the books I read on goodreads.com. If you are a member there, please friend me.

I am also slowly working my way through the AFI list of the Top 100 Films of all time. I've seen about 2/3 of them so far. Maybe I'll start charting that list as Mad Menwell. It is slow going as I have become destracted by a couple of television shows recently. Eva has turned me on to The Big Bang Theory and I am almost finished watching all three seasons of Arrested Development online. I also just finished season 1 of Mad Men. And no, I don't tend to watch TV programs until they have been on the air for at least three seasons. This is how I got started watching LOST during the time that we had no TV in the house. I had a LOST marathon weekend watching the first two seasons on DVD, then had to catch up on season 3 via the internet. I would love to have a marathon Mad Men weekend but I am having to wait for the DVDs via Netflix. This could take forever...maybe I'll just go out and buy the set.

On to real life, Eva is enjoying college life so far. I used to rush home from school as soon as I could to beat the traffic, but Eva hangs out with her friends or does homework in the library and doesn't get home for 5 or 6 hours after her last class. She also joined some weight-loss program at school and works out at the gym with a trainer twice a week. I joined her on the strict diet they gave her but by week three I'm sticking more with watching calories than eating exactly what is on the list. You can only eat so much cottage cheese and tuna before you crave a little variety. :p

Eric is having a good school year so far and is once again involved in media production. I missed his movie screening night last year when I was in NY, so this year I will make sure to keep that date free. He and his friends play RPG games and have planned to take over our house every other Saturday. I am hoping that we might fix up the garage and they can move their campaigns out there at some point as they can be rather loud. Plus they take up the entire living room. They did try to meet at school as an organized club but somehow that fell through. I love the club name they came up with - LONAI, League of Non-Athletic Individuals. ha!

Abe is still having fun working on the railroad all the livelong night. Yes, he has moved to the night shift which makes it fun for us at home during the day. Try keeping two hyper dogs quiet when the UPS man comes to the door. The railroad is talking about moving their local homebase to Barstow. No offense if you are one of the unfortunate folks who live there, but I can think of nothing good about Barstow. Consequently, we do not want to move to Barstow so I hope that we can find a way to stay here. Otherwise, we are thinking of nice states Abe can transfer to. Or even nice countries. I hear they are in need of railroad workers in Victoria, AU. :D

Who knows, I may actually update this blog again this quarter as I have a Great Big Sea concert to attend in November and that should be interesting. TTFN.
